Since the start of the ongoing SNAP crisis, JF&CS has assisted more than a thousand people facing food insecurity in our community—providing emergency food to families in need, extra food to every Family Table client, and outreach across the community.

Massachusetts began paying SNAP benefits this past weekend and is planning to pay all November benefits by the end of the week. This is excellent news—at least for the time being. While the situation remains fluid—with the Supreme Court still to weigh in—we hope that the Commonwealth will prevail in its efforts to restore this vital source of support. In the meantime, we are actively responding to the urgent needs people are facing right now.

Even as benefits are restarted, we’re seeing how deeply people’s lives have been disrupted. Every day, we process emergency requests and welcome people for healthy groceries. Our emergency response will continue until all SNAP recipients have received their benefits— at least through this week. If there are no further changes, we’ll pause our emergency response, but we stand ready to help should challenges persist.

At the same time, we’re also reaching out to those we’ve helped, offering longer-term support and ongoing Jewish connection through Family Table. JF&CS will provide unwavering support—food, benefits advocacy, emergency financial assistance, and more—through this crisis and beyond.

We are able to show up for people in need with expertise and compassion because of the outpouring of support from our community. We’re deeply grateful for the generous contributions of food, dollars, and time in this moment of acute need.
