Bet Tzedek ("House of Justice") helps people to access public benefits like SNAP, and to find legal assistance. Our mission is to promote social and economic justice for those with low income in the Greater Boston area.

Our team works closely with all JF&CS programs, taking a collaborative approach to provide a thorough and individualized service to our clients. An individual's benefits and legal needs are often intertwined with the need for other essential types of support.

A network of volunteer attorneys and law firms provides pro bono support to our program to help address client needs and questions. This generous support enhances our mission to be able to address the variety of challenges that our clients face.

Public Benefits Advocacy 

Our SNAP/Benefits Advocates assist JF&CS clients and others who are applying for SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps) and making efforts to maintain their benefits. Bet Tzedek ensures that each client is receiving exactly what they are eligible for and makes the entire SNAP benefits process much simpler. Learn more about available SNAP benefits.

Legal Referral

The program provides guidance and referral resources in a variety of civil legal areas including Housing, Public Benefits, Family, Unemployment Benefits, Domestic Violence, Elder, Probate/Trust/Estates, and Education Law. Bet Tzedek does not assist with criminal matters, malpractice claims, personal injury cases, or tort claims. Clients must meet income eligibility requirements and live in our Greater Boston service area.

Opportunities vary, from handling individual cases to providing brief telephone advice on a specific legal issue. Whatever their time commitment, attorneys who volunteer their time with us have the potential to make an enormous difference in an individual’s life while fulfilling the recommendations of the Massachusetts Bar to assist persons with limited means.
