JF&CS is proud to be part of the Sibshops national program, focused on hosting fun workshops for kids ages 8-12 and teens who are siblings of children with special needs.
Sibshops is a nationally acclaimed program of fun workshops for kids ages 8-12 who have siblings with disabilities, chronic illness, or mental health needs. Each Sibshop gives participants opportunity to participate in recreational activities that encourage sharing, laughter, and fun! Kids will have the chance to meet and connect with other kids, who also have siblings with special needs.
We are excited this year to offer teen programming for teens ages 13 and up as part of Sibshops. A slight twist on the Sibshops model, this programming provides a space for teens to engage with peers and college students who have similar experiences. Just like their younger counterparts, members have fun together, learn from one another, and build a community of ongoing support.
Sibshops is also supported by Boston University and the Massachusetts Sibling Support Network. This partnership allows for college student volunteers to participate in Sibshops, acting as role models and providing friendship and support to participants.
Both groups participate in activities together, but the distinction between them allows for tailored conversations about age-based needs and interests.
Our monthly meetings include fun activities like laser tag, snow tubing, pottery painting, and other exciting field trips. At Sibshops, siblings will:
- Meet other siblings of children with special needs and have a great time together
- Obtain peer support and education in a fun and recreational environment
- Share experiences in a supportive and non-judgmental environment, with other siblings who understand
There is a one time fee for Sibshops of $100 for the year. Subsidies are available. Registration is open to anyone. Check out our flyer!
