Navigating an unexpected path
John is the single father of a young daughter. When her mother’s substance use disorder led to their child being placed in foster care, John found himself facing a moment he had never expected—preparing to parent his daughter on his own.
He turned to JF&CS for support at a critical time. Through our parenting group, John learned about young children’s emotional needs, how they communicate them, and how caregivers can attend to them with care. Alongside this support, we helped him secure housing with space for his daughter and stability for their future together.
When the time came to welcome his daughter home, JF&CS stood with John through the emotional complexity of reunification—honoring the bond his daughter had formed with her foster family while helping John step fully into his role as her primary caregiver.
Today, John’s daughter is thriving, surrounded by the love of her father, her extended family, and the supportive adults who helped meet this pivotal moment with compassion and care.
