The Institute is particularly interested in linking discrete research findings to create and implement practical applications.
Our Vision
In five years the Geriatric Institute will have:
- Achieved national stature
- Implemented demonstration projects that have broad application, and influence public policy and reimbursement systems
- Developed a model process and method for comprehensively collecting and evaluating research with feasible application
- Established linkages with academic institutions that enrich opportunities for research and training
- Fostered the integration of knowledge and experience gained from demonstration projects into mainstream senior services
Current and Planned Projects:
- Utilizing front-line workers in Home Health and Homecare to detect depression and suicidality in the elderly
- Use of wellness-promoting interventions in Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORCs)
- A multi-factorial approach to risk screening and preventing falls in frail elderly
- Improving adjustment to Parkinson’s through the recognition of the influence of correlated character traits
