What Are Services for People with Disabilities?
Services for People with Disabilities are a collection of programs designed for people with special needs and their families. Services include information and referral, Jewish life, supported housing, case management, service planning, support for activities of daily living, social skills groups and individual advocacy. Each service is designed with the goal of enhancing independence, quality of life and inclusion in the community.

THE DISABILITIES RESOURCE NETWORK
The Disabilities Resource Network is an information and referral service, serving people with disabilities and their caregivers. The network is for consumers who need information about services related to religious life, education, social/recreational concerns, housing, legal advocacy or any aspect of life in the community.

CJP DISABILITIES TRUST
Available regardless of religion, the Combined Jewish Philanthropies (CJP) Disabilities Trust is a pooled trust for adults with disabilities. It enables families to make financial investments that ensure a lifetime of personal advocacy services without interfering with government entitlements or benefits. Sponsored in partnership with CJP, the trust is used for services that enhance the beneficiary's quality of life and to pay for expenses that are not covered by insurance or government benefits.

COMMUNITY HOUSING FOR ADULT INDEPENDENCE (CHAI)
CHAI provides daily living support to adults with disabilities who seek to live independently either in their own homes or in small group living situations. Supervision varies from round-the-clock to several hours per week based on each individual's needs. Emergency coverage is always available for all CHAI residents.

CHAI serves adults with a wide range of physical and intellectual disabilities including mental retardation, autism and significant learning disabilities as well as people with persistent psychiatric illness. CHAI develops an individualized package of services for each prospective client. The types of supports that are often put in place include:

  • Assistance with daily living activities including laundry, shopping, meal preparation and budgeting.
  • Skills training including using public transportation, money management, reading and other academic skills.
  • Emotional support to prevent psychiatric crises.
  • Opportunities to participate in a wide range of community and recreational activities.
  • Support to those who are interested in pursuing connections with local religious congregations.
