Infant-Parent Training Institute:
One-Year Infant Mental Health Clinical Fellowship Training Program

The One Year Program includes completion of three courses. The Infant Parent Relationship Seminar and the Integrative Seminar are taken together and the Infant Observation Course may be taken prior to acceptance into the Fellowship or concurrently. It is recommended that students have clinical experience from which to draw upon for the training, but this is not required. Students have the option of gaining clinical experience through Early Connections, a mother-infant therapeutic treatment program of the Center for Early Relationship Support at JF&CS. This may be arranged on an individual basis.

Students wishing to continue their training may apply for the Two Year Certificate in Infant Mental Health 2008-2009. This course builds upon the first year and focuses on Infant Mental Health Intervention and Consultation.

Time and Day:
The Fellowship meets for 4 hours on alternate Friday mornings, 9am-1:15pm
There are 18 sessions from September to early June

Course Descriptions:

The Infant Parent Relationship Seminar:
The Infant Parent Relationship Seminar offers a multi-disciplinary approach to conceptualizing how infants and their caregivers grow and develop together within the earliest relationship(s). Through readings, discussion, video and case material we will explore theories of attachment and of infant and parent development. We will also look at cutting edge theory and research that attempts to describe the ways in which infants and their caregivers express their emotions, intentions and conflicts often in non-verbal ways. The course will focus upon integrating developmental and relational theory and how to understand development as it takes place within the earliest bond. Early attachments and ways of relating can influence individuals throughout life. Understanding the impact of these early experiences helps to inform our ways of working therapeutically with others.
Time 9-11 AM

The Integrative Seminar:
This seminar offers a range of opportunities for understanding the clinical application of infant mental health concepts. Drawing on videos, observations and students’ clinical cases, the course will begin to build bridges between theoretical ideas about early development and the world of professional practice. Observation of screenings, assessments, consultations and groups with new parents and babies will provide students with shared and up-close experiences of relational needs, dynamics and possibilities for prevention and intervention.
Date and Time: Friday Mornings 11:15 AM – 1:15 PM
Tuition: $3,200
