Clinical Fellowship Course Descriptions

Year One: Infant and Parent Development Seminar
This seminar is offered every other week for two hours for the academic year. It offers an interdisciplinary approach, critically exploring concepts from infant development, developmental psychology, infant research, and psychodynamic theory. The goals of the seminar include the integration of modern developmental and psychoanalytic theory with infant and brain research, and application of this knowledge to a sound understanding of infant-caregiver relationships. The course integrates clinical case presentations with reading and discussion. The seminar is taught by the core faculty of the Infant Parent Training Institute and guest instructors. Guest instructors are researchers and clinicians from the Boston academic community.

Year Two: Assessment, Intervention, and Consultation
This year long course is offered every other week for two hours for the academic year. It is divided into three sections: Infant and Parent Screening and Assessment, Intervention with Parents and Infants (Parent-Infant Psychotherapy) and consultation to Special Populations. Specific topics covered include: the assessment of infant functioning and development as well as psychological assessment of parents, infant-parent treatment modalities and consultation to specific populations such as teen mothers, daycare facilities, foster families. The course integrates clinical case presentation with reading and discussion. It is taught by IPTI faculty, with guest speakers from the Boston academic and clinical community.
