Nutrition Services

mom and daughter at marketThe JF&CS Nutrition Services program was initiated by generous donors who recognized how drastically a lack of proper nutrition affects people’s quality of life. Nutrition Services provides expert direct service, training, and consultation that focus on improving nutritional health for all.

Good nutritional health prevents or alleviates many diseases, reduces health care and medication costs, helps seniors maintain independence, sustains good physical and mental health, and promotes optimal child development.

We provide individuals, families, and care partners with research-based food and nutrition education and skills. Situations we address that make it difficult to eat healthfully include limited funds, education or literacy, food related knowledge and skills, and intellectual or physical capacity.

All services are provided by licensed, registered dietitians either at our offices or at community-based sites. Services include:

Individual Nutrition Counseling

Personalized one-on-one nutrition counseling helps individuals and families achieve nutrition and food-related goals. Our registered dietitians are well trained to address many issues such as weight concerns, chronic diseases, food affordability, and special dietary needs.

Interactive Groups

Hands-on groups designed to improve nutritional health by increasing knowledge, confidence, and self sufficiency to nourish the body while addressing participant food and nutrition-related concerns. Food $ense groups present an affordable way for participants to eat healthy.

Training and Consultations

A vital resource for JF&CS programs with specialties including issues of food insecurity, at-risk families, seniors in the community, people with developmental disabilities, and people with mental illness. Training and consultation is also available for other community organizations.

Hunger and Nutrition Initiative

Nutrition Services and Family Table are a part of the agency-wide Hunger & Nutrition Initiative. The Hunger & Nutrition Initiative is devoted to alleviating hunger and improving nutritional health in economically, medically, and socially vulnerable people in our community. This initiative has enabled us to be well poised to provide food and nutrition help during this difficult economic time.
