Autism Navigation

Autism Navigation is dedicated to facilitating a timely, integrated, and coordinated approach to the care of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Autism NavigatorEducational, financial, and treatment systems can be overwhelming to navigate. The JF&CS Autism Navigation program provides comprehensive, individualized guidance tailored to your family’s needs.

Services include:

Individualized Research and Successful Referrals

  • Researching and identifying providers who are sensitive to or trained in the needs of a youth with ASD.
  • These referrals may include evaluators, clinicians, developmental specialists, sibling/parent supports, extracurricular activities, skills groups, credible literature/websites, nutritionists, benefits, finances/grants, housing, transportation, respite, and legal aid.

Care Coordination

  • Arranging of services, attending appointments, and monitoring treatment. Evaluating short- and long-term needs and goals.
  • Ensuring that care is being provided as expected and that needs are being met.
  • Help resolving any problems that may arise and modifying plans to meet changing needs.
  • Healthcare planning and facilitating communication among individuals involved, including professionals, family, friends, teachers, coaches, and neighbors.

Coaching

  • Providing families with information about the diagnosis, explaining language in reports, exploring recommendations, and addressing various healthcare and family needs.
  • Helping families determine how to focus their time and energy.
  • Providing support and a listening ear before helping to solve problems.

Educational and Benefits Advocacy

  • Assisting families with school issues.
  • Help appealing insurance denials and other benefit challenges.
  • Attending meetings with providers and facilities to ensure the family’s voice is heard.
  • Guidance accessing grants and other financial support.

Workshops

  • Practical presentations for parents and providers on a wide range of topics.
  • Opportunities to meet other families in similar situations.
